Definitions

AACR2r: The Angle-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd edition, revised. The current cataloging standards in the U.S.

Authority control: The procedures by which consistency of form is maintained in the headings (names, uniform titles, series titles, and subjects) used in a library catalog or file of bibliographic records through the application of an authoritative list (called an authority file) to new items as they are added to the collection. MARC: MAchine Readable Cataloging. The most-common standard for coding cataloging records for online display.

OCLC: The international database of MARC records that institutions use for sharing MARC records between institutions.

OPAC: Online Public Access Catalog.  An online database containing the information (MARC records) for all the materials held by a library.  Used by library patrons to find books and other materials located in a library (or group of libraries).

Sabbatical Leave: The purpose of sabbatical leave is to provide opportunities for study, research, creative effort, improvement of instructional or public service capabilities and methods, and related travel in order that the quality of each recipient's service to the University may be enhanced.
