Who am I?

I am the Music Catalog Librarian at the University of Kentucky.  I am responsible for cataloging all sound and video recordings, music scores, collected editions and other monographic sets and series, solving cataloging problems in the Fine Arts Library, and handling authority work for music headings.

I am also the head of the Special Formats Unit, which includes the cataloging activities for the Special Collections Library and the Maps Collection.  Our unit is comprised of 2 faculty librarians and 3 support staff.

I have a Master's of Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina (1998) and a Master's of Arts in Musicology from Smith College (2000).  My Bachelor of Arts degree is in music, also from the University of South Carolina (1997).  My primary instrument is the clarinet; please do not ask me to sing ... ever.  I love clarinet music, wind chamber music, and most instrumental music from the 18th and 19th centuries.

I am a member of the Music Library Association, the Midwest Chapter of the Music Library Association, and the Music OCLC Users Group (MOUG).  I am currently a contributing editor for Notes, the Journal of the Music Library Association, for which I collect and analyse data for the annual price index.  I have also contributed the clarinet section to the 4th edition of Basic Music Library, to be published by the American Library Association sometime in 2012 or 2013.

My favorite moment as a musician was going with the choir at my church to Italy where we performed a concert in Rome and sang at a daily Mass at the Vatican (no instruments allowed there).  Yes, I sang ... under duress ... it won't happen again.
